Veteran media personality Tom Japanni, who is also Massawe Japanni's husband has officially left Standard Media Group, where he held a leadership position. Japanni, who formerly led the radio division at the media house, made the announcement on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Taking to his socials he said; “It's a wrap. Prepping for a new season. A new calling,”.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Tom Japanni served as the Head of Radio at Standard Media Group for 11 years, assuming the role in February 2013.


Prior to joining Standard Media Group, Japanni held the position of senior producer at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

In recent times, Standard Media Group has encountered financial challenges, leading to employees experiencing prolonged salary delays for several months. Consequently, the challenging circumstances have prompted journalists within the media house to seek alternative opportunities elsewhere.

Among those who recently departed from the media house are Billy Miya, Hassan Kauleni, Mbaruk Mwalimu, Fred Indimuli, Beatrice Maganga, Emmanuel Mwashumbe, and Linda Oriaso, among others.

Billy Miya, Linda Oriaso, Hassan Kauleni, Mbaruk Mwalimu, Emmanuel Mwashumbe, Fred Indimuli, and Beatrice Maganga have since joined Radio 47.
