A coalition between Northrift shuttle Matatu and an Eldoret Express bus on the busy Nakuru-Gilgil road has left two people dead and injured dozens more.
According to a police report, the accident occurred when the bus driver attempted to overtake a fleet of vehicles and collided with an incoming Matatu, which swerved to avoid the collision but was hit on the side.
"The driver of motor vehicle Registration KCP 045F which was heading towards Naivasha general direction suddenly overtook a fleet of vehicles,which made the driver of motor vehicle Registration KDH 330E swerve to the left to avoid colliding head on but unfortunately the bus rammed on the right side body pushing it to the ditch," the police report explains.

The Northrift shuttle Matatu was carrying ten people during the disaster. Two people are alleged to have died on the scene, while several others were injured and rushed to St. Marys Hospital.
Meanwhile, some passengers aboard the Eldoret Express bus suffered minor injuries due to the right front side accident.
A police officer from GSU Embakasi was among those injured, with a cut on his forehead.
The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Gilgil sub-county hospital mortuary for further inquiry into the occurrence.
