Marathon runner Kelvin Kiptum's body has left his Chepsamo residence and is now at the Chepkorio showground, where a funeral is taking place.

Leaders such as President William Ruto are anticipated to attend the event.  In the heartland of American athletics, Sebastian Coe, the head of World Athletics, is also anticipated to pay his respects.

A convoy of cars made up of church leaders, security personnel, and family members follows the hearse bearing Kiptum's body. The roughly six-kilometer distance between his house and the Chepkorio center has also seen increased security.

On Thursday, Kiptum's body was taken from the morgue at Eldoret Hospital and brought to Iten, where the public could see it.  As was customary, it was laid to rest for the night at his Chepsamo home.

Before the service started, there was supposed to be another chance for the public to see the body.

He will rest in his new residence in Naiberi, Uasin Gishu.
