Three pupils died on Saturday evening after the bus they were traveling in lost control at the Ruiru area near Mathioya bridge, plunging the bus into a ditch.

 The bus belonging to Maadili school of Juja was ferrying 38 pupils, three teachers, and two drivers from Nyeri county, where they had gone to participate in celebrations to mark Scouts Founder’s Day.

One of the pupils perished on the spot, while two others died at Murang’a Level 5 hospital, where they were rushed for treatment.

Members of the Murang’a County Disaster and Emergency team rushed to the scene and helped rescue the pupils, some of whom were taken to Maragua Rural Hospital.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata sent his condolences to the affected parents and lauded the medical officers at the level 5 facility, who responded to the emergency promptly.

He said among those injured, five learners were admitted at the intensive care unit as some parents who arrived at the hospital requested their children to be transferred to hospitals of their choice.

“Medical team at Murang’a County Hospital was able to attend to injured people. Some of the pupils were taken to Maragua as some parents requested their children be transferred to hospitals of their choice.”

“It was sad to see young pupils with big dreams perish in the accident and as County Government of Murang’a, we send our condolences to the parents and relatives of the deceased,” he added.
