There are still 58,330 passports that must be picked up from various immigration offices nationwide.

The most significant number of unclaimed passports is in Nairobi, where 24,613 applicants have not yet picked up their travel documents, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Immigration Principal Secretary Julius Bitok.

Nine thousand five hundred eighty-four passports remain unclaimed at the Immigration offices in Embu, with Kisumu (6,087), Mombasa (5,759), Eldoret (4,538), Nakuru (4,466), and Kisii (3,283) following suit.

Prof. Bitok pointed out that to reduce the backlog of applications brought on by increased demand, the government has increased passport printing.

"Applications are being processed on a first-in-first-out basis subject to the availability of specific booklets determined by the number of pages paid for by each applicant," according to the PS.

He continued: "We urge applicants who have already been notified that their passports are ready to collect them as soon as possible to free up storage space."
