Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has blasted six county commissioners and police commanders for a lack of vigilance as the fight against illicit brew continues.
During a meeting with top security officers from 47 counties at his official Karen residence, the DP chastised security officials from Kajiado, Migori, Busia, Bungoma, Marsabit, and Isiolo counties.
Gachagua stated that illegal substances are being easily smuggled into the country from the said border points.

"The border points of Namanga and Loiktoktok are entry points of ethanol and other contraband goods, there are challenges at the entry point in Isibania, the Moyale entry point is responsible for the amount of bhang that is in the country," he said.
"Either the officers there have slept on duty or they are part of the problem." he added.
While warning the officers of severe penalties, Gachagua stated that no laxity would be tolerated in the fight against the country's drug problem.
He advocated for the complete sealing of all hotspot border points to prevent an increase in the use of narcotics that he said would destroy society.
"In our meeting this morning we have asked the IG (Inspector General) to give you a chance. Many of us were of the idea that we need to make changes," noted Gachagua.
"You have to pull up your socks...You have the law on your side and you simply don't do what you need to do."
The second in command promised to bring in officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), and other relevant agencies to help put an end to the vice.
