In a traffic accident in Turkey, the son of Sudan's army chief and de facto leader, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, suffered severe injuries, according to a local media report.

Mohammed Fattah al-Burhan Rahmane was thrown several meters off his motorcycle after colliding with a utility vehicle on Thursday while riding in the Turkish capital of Ankara, according to the DHA news agency.

The report also stated that he was admitted to intensive care after being moved to a hospital. A request for comment from the Sudanese embassy in Ankara was answered after a period of time.

Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, his former deputy and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader, have been at war since April.

Following a joint military coup in 2021 that halted Sudan's precarious democratic transition, the two generals developed a falling out.

UN experts estimate that tens of thousands have died in the conflict, including as many as 15,000 in one town in West Darfur.

According to UN estimates, it has also destroyed infrastructure, devastated the economy, and uprooted over eight million people.
