Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has affirmed his commitment to reducing noise pollution in Nairobi Estates, especially from nightclubs.

During a Sunday service in Langata, the Governor said loud music hurt school-going children.

“We will no longer torlerate night clubs in our estates. There is no way our children will be doing school homework while nightclubs are playing loud music in the neighbourhoods,” he stated.

Sakaja also revealed that the ongoing crackdown and clampdown of wines & spirits joints and small bars around bus terminals was informed by NTSA report that drunk driving is a major contributor to road accidents and fatalities that occur in the city.

This comes a week after the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) intensified its efforts to crack down on several establishments across major cities in the country to enforce the ban on Shisha.

In the recent past, authorities have apprehended 13 individuals in connection with the shisha trade after conducting raids on various entertainment venues in Nairobi.

A similar operation in Nyali, Mombasa, on January 14 led to the arrest of over 45 people associated with shisha dens.
