Eight bars have been closed in the ongoing crackdown on illicit brew and bars operating outside the prescribed hours in Kuria West, Migori County.
Confirming the incident, Migori County police commander Francis Nguli said the closed bars were operating outside the prescribed hours, and 17 people were arrested.
The 17 people arrested include bar owners, workers, and also the revelers who were found drunk and behaving disorderly during the crackdown.
According to Nguli, the suspects will be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
Further, he said they also managed to seize 16 crates and six cartons of unaccustomed alcohol from the neighboring country, Tanzania, during the crackdown.

Nguli said the crackdown is going on across the county, warning the people operating bars illegally and those selling uncustomed alcohol.
Additionally, he warned the bar operators should be against inciting members of the public against the police officers doing the crackdown.
He said the police will not hesitate to arrest them and also recommend that the licenses for their bars not be renewed.
