Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda has pleaded not guilty to gross misconduct during the Senate impeachment hearing on Wednesday.

The charges read to him also include gross violation of the constitution, crimes under national law, and abuse of office.

The hearing comes after the House resolved to alter its meeting schedule for Wednesday and Thursday, marking the final day for the Senate to vote on whether to support or oppose Monda’s impeachment.

The House Majority Leader, Aaron Cheruiyot, proposed the approved motion to amend the meeting hours

Senators will convene for both morning and afternoon sessions over the two days.

“Morning sitting will commence at 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and the afternoon sittings will start at 2.30 pm until the conclusion of business listed on the order paper of the day.”

The Deputy Governor was impeached on February 29, 2024, by members of the Kisii County Assembly amid accusations of abuse of office and bribery.
