Police officers have recovered the body of an unidentified man who was found floating by residents on the Rwamuthambi River, Kirinyaga County.
According to locals, the body was discovered at 5 pm as they were fetching water from the river. They then notified the police from Kiamaciri station.
The residents claim that this is not the first incident because last year, on October 27, 2023, the body of a Kenya Defence Force (KDF) officer was discovered in the exact location.

The officer was later identified. According to Muthigi assistant chief Chrispina Gathoni, bodies discovered in rivers and on highways are concerning in Kirinyaga.
On March 14, 2024, an unnamed woman's naked body was discovered abandoned in Cumbiri, near rice farms along Mutithi-Kandongu-Kagio, and was transferred to Kerugoya mortuary.
Two weeks prior, another woman's lifeless body was discovered abandoned in Rukanga along the Makutano-Sagana route. She was subsequently recognized as a blogger from Tharaka Nithi County.
The body retrieved on Sunday was brought to the Kerugoya referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.
