Sicily Kariuki, a former cabinet secretary for water, sanitation, and irrigation, has urged up-and-coming leaders to brave leadership challenges, particularly in the political sphere.

Kariuki asserts that maintaining success in leadership roles requires taking a difficult step.

She gave a speech on Sunday at the dedication service for her recently released memoir, "Breaking the Illusions," at St. Peter ACK Church Ol-Kalou.

In her memoir, the former Chief Security Officer provides insight into Kenya's unstable political environment while in office.

She also talks about how she intervened to end Congolese artist Koffi Olomide's 2016 performance because of a conflict inside his group. She also describes how some Members of Parliament later came to her to apologize for their false charges, even though she had to deal with two failed attempts at impeachment.

Kariuki skillfully combines insightful analysis with engrossing anecdotes throughout her memoir to offer readers a compelling window into Kenyan politics and her experiences navigating its intricacies.

In a press conference held soon after the event, Kariuki stated that toto stay relevant, people aspiring to leadership roles must prove their mettle in the face of shady business practices and intrigues in "bigger" offices.

As more opportunities for women in technical and political fields have opened up, she challenged young women to rise, take on leadership roles, and value education.
