The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) is set to resume partial commuter train service on Tuesday after being suspended due to heavy rainfall.

On April 24, the Corporation suspended the commuter train that ferries commuters to and from the Nairobi city center daily across five routes: Embakasi, SGR Link, Syokimau, Limuru, Lukenya, and Ruiru.

In a public notice on Monday, KRC said it will resume service on Embakasi Village, Lukenya, SGR Link, and Syokimau routes from Tuesday.

However, the Limuru and Ruiru routes will remain suspended due to ongoing repair works on the railway lines.

“We also wish to advise the public that commuter train services are subject to change at short notice, depending on weather conditions and other safety considerations. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore normalcy.”

Flooding from ongoing rainfall in many parts of Kenya has killed 229 people, according to government figures released on Monday.

Seventy-five people are still missing, 46,937 households are displaced, and property of unaccounted value as well as public infrastructure, is destroyed.
