Education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang has announced that Ksh.3.4 billion will be earmarked for building Grade 9 classrooms. The ministry plans to build 16,000 classrooms by the end of 2024.
PS Kipsang stated that the government has set up adequate funding to build classrooms for Grade 9 students, adding that the sum would allow for a suitable number of classrooms.
Furthermore, he said that "MPs have been asked to set aside an equivalent amount so that we shall have Ksh.6.8 billion which should be able to do more than 6,000 classrooms."

The funds will be disbursed with the National Government Constituency Development Fund.
He said the government will subsequently provide Ksh.9 billion to improve the building of another 9,000 classrooms.
The plan is to enhance instructional space in schools as part of implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) educational system introduced in 2017.
CBC superseded the 8-4-4 education system, and the last cohort will take the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in 2027, marking the transition.
