Two police reservists have died in a suspected terror attack when suspected militants raided a police post in Ziwa la Tata village in Witu, Lamu County.
According to reports, residents are still counting their losses, glad to have survived the attack but shaken and scared for what the future holds.
They say they had retired for the night when the silence was shattered by gunshots, followed by what they say was looting of property in the village.
For one family, the attack has hit them where it hurts the most: the late Joseph Tunu had reported working alongside five other police reservists when suspected al-Shabaab militants opened fire.
According to Citizen Digital, Tunu had survived two other attacks from suspected militants in the past.

He wasn't so lucky as he lost his life alongside a colleague while a third reservist was shot in the leg; three survived unhurt.
His wife, now turned widow, recalls the moments before the attack, moments after her husband had reported for duty…a night of silence and unanswered calls led to the confirmation of their worst fears.
“Asubuhi ilipofika mimi na mwanangu tulienda mwendo wa saa kumi na moja asubuhi kazini…tukatapata mme wangu amefariki,” she narrated.
The attackers also injured another, but they also torched some houses and destroyed property, leaving the village in disarray.
Residents of the area are now calling on the Ministry of Interior to beef up security.
Residents now hope the government will provide a lasting solution to keep them safe and ensure their lives run undisrupted.
