Owen Baya, a member of parliament for Kilifi North, has charged Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya of using goons to state his purported thirst for power in the West.

This follows an apparent power struggle over the region's political kingship on Friday during a funeral between the supporters of Natembeya and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

MP Baya now says that Natembeya brought his alleged goons to the event on purpose to stir up trouble and start the chaos.

"He has been preparing to face Wetangula in a dual that is not civilized," he said on Citizen TV's Daybreak show Tuesday.

According to Baya, the rumored conflicts are a holdover from Natembeya's desire for power, which he will stop at nothing to obtain.

"Natembeya is one of the young leaders we currently see in this country who lacks morals. He is so eager for power that he believes using the goons we saw at the funeral is the only way to rule the area and seize power," he remarked.

"That is the only thing that he understands."

The lawmaker argued that because Speaker Wetangula has such solid political standing in Kenya, Natembeya's efforts must be more effective.

"Wetangula is one person whose politics is way above but these younger leaders who feel threatened by his dominance imagine that he is fighting them. It's a figment of their imagination," he noted.

"They go and assemble goons and think that they can grab power from Wetangula. He does not need to fight for power. People in Western Kenya respect him, they love him as a leader who has been there for them for many years just the same way people in Nyanza love Raila."

Since the burial incident, a video of Natembeya addressing a crowd and leading chants against Speaker Wetangula has been making the rounds.

Every time Natembeya made a statement, the audience answered, "tawe" (no).

"Hunger, 'tawe', Poverty, 'tawe', tribalism, 'tawe', favourism, 'tawe', Ford-Kenya, 'tawe', Wetangula, 'tawe'."
