A 26-year-old man died after he fell into the waters of Lake Victoria while taking a shower near Uhanya Beach in Bondo, Siaya County.

According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the man, who has been identified as Samuel Otieno, fell into the waters and drowned.

Confirming the incident, Buluma Owino, a member of the Uhanya Beach Management Unit security team, reported Kimaiyo to the Uhanya police patrol base.

He stated that officers from the patrol base visited the scene and established that the deceased, who was also epileptic, had gone to take a bath at the lakeshore, where he developed an attack and fell into the water.

Kimaiyo stated that the local fishermen, through the help of members of the public, swiftly moved in to try to rescue him and only managed to retrieve him when already dead.

Further, he stated that the scene was processed and documented before the body, which had no visible physical injuries, was moved to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
