Investigators from Nyamira County's Ekerenyo station are looking into a case in which a six-year-old child passed away and five family members—including his brothers and parents—were left with stomachaches after consuming supposedly poisonous cassava.
A police report stated that the family's victims, who included the parents and four children, ages sixteen, eight, and six, had consumed the food for lunch. They started having diarrhea, vomiting, and stomachaches as night fell.
After receiving first aid treatment at Ekerenyo Hospital, where their neighbors took them, they were moved to Nyamira General Hospital for additional medical care.
The youngest child in Nyamira Hospital, Shadrack Mosigisi, passed away due to complications.
