A Ugandan national has been sentenced to six years in jail after confessing to murdering her six-year-old son to relieve herself of the responsibility of caring for him.
The teen was sentenced by Justice Reuben Nyakundi, who refused to give her the choice of a fine after she pled guilty to murder.
Standing in the dock and looking at the judge, the teenage mother explained why she acted the way she did while members of the crowd listened in shock.

The accused said that she killed her child because she was stressed, frustrated, and in misery, and she wanted to relieve the burden of caring for the child alone after his father abandoned them.
She was defending herself in a case where she was accused of murdering her son, Junior Nesero Butsetse.
She is believed to have carried out the alleged act on October 28, 2023, in the Kabogo district of Uasin Gishu County.
The accused requested that if she is found guilty of murder, the court provide her with a non-custodial sentence so that she can receive medical care for the trauma she experienced following the tragic events.
The court denied the plea and sentenced her to prison.
