The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) declared a decrease in fuel prices, effective midnight Sunday until mid-May.

According to an official statement by the Regulator on X, Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene have been reduced by Kes 5.30, Kes 10.00, and Kes 18.68 per liter, respectively.

This adjustment brings the retail prices to Kes 193.84, Kes 180.38, and Kes 170.06 per liter for the coming month.

“During this period, the maximum allowable petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene decrease by Kes 5.31, Kes 10.00, and Kes 18.68 per liter, respectively.”

“The prices include the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020, and revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation according to Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” EPRA said.

EPRA announced hours after President William Ruto hinted at a significant decrease in the cost of living, with fuel price reductions of up to Kes 10.

“Today, maize flour was nearing Kes 200, now close to Kes 100. The dollar was Kes 160, now it’s a hundred and twenty-something, and still dropping. Oil prices, as you have seen, have dropped by Kes 10 today,” he said during a church service.
