Hundreds of residents were displaced after raging floods on Tuesday evening in the Soweto and Kibra South areas within the Kibra sub-county.
Residents say river Ngong', which cuts across the slums, burst its banks after heavy rainfall, catching them unawares in their homes.
The residents whose houses are now isolated by floods have been compelled to stay out of the structures.
The flooding has created a humanitarian crisis for victims because most of their household items were swept away by the water.
Confirming the incident, Kibra sub-county deputy commissioner Jacob Odidi called upon the residents to be vigilant.
