Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced that the Nairobi County government intends to evacuate at least 3,000 people to shelters where they can receive food and other humanitarian assistance.

Speaking on Wednesday, he said that the county has rolled out a large-scale coordinated response operation to avert a humanitarian crisis.

Further, he ordered the suspension of all excavations along riparian areas.

Meanwhile, all inhabitants along riverbeds and high areas will be required to relocate to high grounds or shelters provided by the county.

Sakaja advised city residents to use hotline number 1508 to access the County Government Emergency services.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Socirety, floods have killed 38 people so far countrywide warning that the flood situation is moving from an emergency to a disaster level.
