President William Ruto has welcomed Haiti's new government and promised to help the country transition into new leadership to restore peace in the gang-run country.
In a statement on Friday, President William Ruto praised the change of leadership and described it as a critical milestone in Haiti's democratic transformation.
"The TPC has the singular task of moving speedily to re-establish key organs of the State critical to the restoration of law and order and necessary for the ushering of hope to all Haitians as prescribed by the Decree of April 12, 2024," said Ruto.

"In implementing the roadmap contained in this political accord, Kenya stands ready and willing- in concert with a broad alliance of nations in Africa and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) - committed to Haiti's stability, to rapidly execute the security support infrastructure envisaged under UN Security Council 2699 (2023). Kenya assures the TPC of Haiti of its full support as it shepherds the country through this complex interregnum."
The 9-member council formally took control on Thursday, following the resignation of previous Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
Michel Patrick Boisvert, Henry's finance minister, will serve as temporary prime minister until the transition council chooses a new leader, forms a cabinet, and creates a provisional electoral council to facilitate the country's planned 2026 elections.
The last time Haitians voted was in November 2016.
Kenya has pledged to send a detachment of 1,000 police personnel to help train and assist Haitian police in restoring normalcy and protecting critical assets as part of a UN Security Council-backed operation.
