One person has died, and four others are nursing injuries after the walls of a Maranatha Faith Assembly Church collapsed in the Ongoche sub-location, Nyatike sub-county.
According to local Assistant Chief Richard Juma, the church services had just been completed, and a few church members, including the deceased and four injured, were still in the church discussing church affairs when the church's wall fell.
Juma stated that the middle-aged guy died on the scene, while the other four were taken to Migori Level Four Hospital for treatment.

The Assistant Chief stated that the wall could have collapsed due to the severe rainfall in the region and around the country.
He reported that the congregation had been holding Sunday church services in a makeshift structure in the middle of the under-construction facility.
Juma stated that the police, who arrived at the location shortly after the collision, are investigating the case.
Meanwhile, he has urged the people to exercise caution during the severe rains.
