President William Ruto will preside over Tuesday morning's special Cabinet meeting, which will address the nation's flood situation.

On Monday, Ruto announced the International Development Association (IDA21) summit in Nairobi.

"Tomorrow morning we are having a Cabinet meeting to discuss additional measures my government is going to take to make sure that my citizens, who are victims of climate change suffering mudslides and floods, are looked after," he said.

According to government statistics, since most of Kenya experienced heavy rains in March, 166 people had perished in flooding as of Monday night.

According to government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, 66 deaths were confirmed on Monday alone, according to Citizen TV's Monday Report program.

This came after flash floods that struck Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, on Monday morning, destroying houses and cars and leaving at least 48 people dead.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the floodwaters came from a nearby river overflowing its banks following intense rain.
