According to a spokeswoman for Ukraine's border service, over 30 Ukrainian men died while attempting to unlawfully cross the country's borders to avoid participating in the war against Russia.

"Some lost their lives while attempting to cross a mountain river or traverse mountains," said Andriy Demchenko, according to a Ukrinform report late on Monday.

"Overall, since the full-scale invasion began, about 30 people have died attempting to illegally cross the border."

With limited exclusions, Ukrainian males aged 18 to 60 are not permitted to leave the country because they may be mobilized to fight, according to Ukraine's martial legislation.

The State Border Guard Service announced on social media that 24 persons had died while attempting to cross the Tisa River on Ukraine's border with Romania.

Demchenko stated that since the beginning of the war, border guards have discovered over 450 criminal organizations attempting to smuggle individuals across the border.

"Attempts to illegally cross the border occur every day," Demchenko explained. "The majority of these efforts occur outside of border posts on the Moldovan and Romanian borders. The highest number of falsified documents has been documented along the border with Poland."

Earlier in April, Demchenko told Ukraine's national radio that around ten males are apprehended each day attempting to exit Ukraine unlawfully.

Last week, Ukraine stopped consular services for military-age male nationals until May 18, condemning Ukrainians abroad who expected to get assistance from the state without helping it fight for survival in the war against Russia.
