An Iraqi social media influencer has been confirmed dead from a gunshot wound.

According to official reports, a shooter on a motorbike shot and killed Om Fahad outside her Baghdad house.

An anonymous attacker shot Om Fahad in her car in the Zayouna neighborhood, according to a security officer.

Another security source claimed the attacker posed to be making a meal delivery.
Om Fahad had made a name for herself on TikTok by posting lighthearted videos of herself dancing to Iraqi music while dressed in tight clothes.

A judge sentenced her to six months in jail in February 2023 for uploading "videos containing indecent speech that undermines modesty and public morality."

This comes barely a year after the Iraqi government initiated a drive to remove social media posts that it said violated Iraqi "morals and traditions."
An interior ministry team was formed to investigate TikTok, YouTube, and other networks for objectionable content.

Several influencers have subsequently been detained, according to officials.
Despite years of war and sectarian violence following the 2003 US invasion to depose Saddam Hussein, Iraq has returned to some semblance of normalcy.

However, civil freedoms for women, sexual minorities, and other groups remain limited in traditional culture.
In 2018, gunmen shot and killed model and influencer Tara Fares in Baghdad.
