“He suffered a deep abdominal cut causing the intestines to protrude out. He also had a deep cut on the right thigh,” a report from the Garsen police station said.

According to authorities, he was transported to the neighboring Garsen Health Centre before being referred to Malindi Subcounty Hospital for expert medical care.

Kenya Wildlife Service officers arrived at the location in the afternoon and planned to issue a follow-up report on the occurrence.

Wildlife assaults are widespread in Tana River and the counties that border the Tsavo East and Tsavo West national parks.

Sunday's event occurred just one month after a 60-year-old man was murdered by a stray buffalo in Voi Town, Taita-Taveta County, which borders Tana River County to the south.

On April 15, a guy with a hearing impairment was assaulted by a stray buffalo.
