Two people are nursing serious injuries at Kimbimbi sub-county hospital after a two-story building under construction collapsed on Wednesday evening in Ngurubani, Kirinyaga County.

Seven other people escaped unhurt from the building under construction.

Wanguru station police officers who arrived immediately after an alarm was raised said nine workers were inside the building when the incident happened.

Confirming the incident, Tebere Ward MCA Peter Karinga said the owner of the building had violated the stipulated construction rules.

Karinga accused the County government structural engineer of negligence as the incident occurred two weeks after another building under construction collapsed at Karia, killing a woman.

“We were expecting them to have stopped this construction.”

Further, the residents accused county engineers of collecting bribes from construction sites.
