President William Ruto has welcomed US President Joe Biden's plea calling for a ceasefire in the ongoing assault on Gaza.
In a statement on X, Ruto stated that the initiative, jointly sponsored by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, will pave the road for rebuilding Gaza.
"...In the first phase, a six-week ceasefire; withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza; release of hostages and remains; the return of Palestinians to North Gaza and access to humanitarian assistance for conflict-affected persons," Ruto said in part.

He also urged Israeli and Palestinian officials to endorse the initiative notwithstanding the continuing violence.
"Given the astronomical human suffering that this conflict has inflicted, I implore Israeli and Palestinian leadership, and all parties of goodwill, to support this plan," he added.
Ruto, who left the nation for Korea on Sunday, added that the plan would also serve as the foundation for a durable truce and the realization of a two-state solution in which Israel and Palestine coexist, leading to a more stable and just region and globe.
