The National Treasury has proposed allocating Kes 657 billion to the Education sector in the 2024/25 Financial Year.

While reading the 2024/25 Financial Year budget in Parliament on Thursday, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u stated that Kes 358 billion will be shared with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Kes 142 billion for basic education, and Kes 128billion for higher education and research.

He said that the technical and Vocational Training education will also receive Kes 30.7 billion from the allocation.

Further, he said that Kes 9.1 billion will be channeled to Free Primary education, Kes 61.9 billion for free day secondary education, Kes 30.7 billion for Junior Secondary school capitation, and Kes 5 billion for the examination fee waiver.

CS Ndung’u noted that the Kes 657 billion o allocated to the education sector represents 27.6 percent of the total government expenditure.

“On improving Education outcomes the government continues to invest in education to create a level playing field for all Kenyan children. From this end I have proposed a total allocation of Kes 657 billion to the education sector,” he said.

The statement that Prof. Ndung’u delivered to the National Assembly runs under the theme “ Sustaining Bottom up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) , fiscal consolidation and investing in climate change mitigation and adaptation for improved livelihoods.”
