Rarieda Constituency Member of Parliament, Senior Counsel Otiende Amollo, has responded following the National Assembly's approval of deploying the Kenya Defence Forces to assist the police in handling the anti-finance bill protests across various parts of the country.

Speaking on Wednesday via his social media channels, the outspoken lawmaker criticized the National Assembly for approving the deployment in less than 30 minutes. He also noted that a majority of lawmakers were absent from the floor of the house during the approval process.



He strongly criticized the government, accusing it of turning the country into a military state. He also raised questions about the deployment, arguing that the National Assembly failed to specify the location, duration, and purpose of deploying the Kenya Defence Forces.

“And, Without Media, Without Most Members, Without Proper Debate, In A Record 30Mins, National Assembly Has Just Made Kenya A Military State; Authorizing Deployment Of KDF Without Indicating Where, Why Or For What Period, & Did So Retrospectively Contra A 241(3)(c). God Bless Us!” SC Otiende Amollo tweeted.

This follows the presence of numerous military officers at Nakuru State House, where they held a vigil the day after protesters stormed the premises. Viral photos on various social media platforms show heavily armed military personnel guarding Nakuru State House.
Earlier, hundreds of protesters also stormed the National Assembly, setting a section of it on fire and damaging property of unspecified value. This forced lawmakers to flee for safety.
