President William Ruto has stated that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel will not be on the streets when Kenyans demonstrate on Tuesday.

The president pledged that the KDF would remain off the streets as long as the protestors were peaceful and that police would be ready to guide and protect them.

"The KDF will not be in the streets. They only come as a last resort. If the demonstrations will be peaceful I promise you the police will be there to protect the demonstrators," Ruto said.

However, he warned that police would be present to deal with criminals who may attempt to enter the protests to harm property and cause disruption.

"We must all operate within the law," Ruto added.

Kenyans dissatisfied with his leadership have pledged to continue the protests this week, with Tuesday and Thursday being the primary days.

An online poster has called on all Kenyans to seize key roadways to pressure the government to act on various issues, including recruiting teachers and doctors and lowering the cost of living.

Ruto says Kenyans can protest as long as they respect law and order.

Last week, deadly protests led to the death of at least ten people who were protesting the finance bill. The president later withdrew the bill and opened doors for dialogue with the youth.
