The National Police Service (NPS) has denied accusations that several Kenyan police officers recently deployed to Haiti had been killed.

This came as reports circulated online that seven police officers had been killed in Haiti as armed gangs increased pressure on the deployed forces.

A photograph shared extensively over the weekend showed a recent shot of Kenyan police patrolling a street in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, with text stating that the cops had been killed.

“7 Kenya police reported dead in Haiti aki [President William Ruto] God will never forgive you," read the text.

NPS has come out to deny the allegations, saying the picture is fake.

The police department did not disclose any more information on the mission or the status of the Kenyan troops.

The first group of around 400 Kenyan police officers landed in Haiti on June 25.

Kenyan President William Ruto had ceremonially released the police a day earlier in Nairobi, describing it as a "historic" solidarity mission.

Hundreds more police officers are expected from Kenya and other countries.
