Nineteen Migori County government workers, including the 93 staff with fake academic papers, have resigned as the devolved unit begins investigations.

Migori County Secretary Oscar Olima has confirmed receiving the resignation letter from the 19 employees who have opted to leave the services rather than waiting for the county and other relevant bodies to take action.

Further, he said that out of the 93 workers with fake primary or secondary certificates, 25 have written to the county public service board requesting an opportunity to give their side of the story.

He said the board has allowed them to defend themselves before taking the next course of action.

Additionally, he said they are investigating county workers with questionable college certificates in the ongoing purge of fake academic papers.

Olima said there is no witch hunt in the exercise as the action has been informed by the audit report compiled by the Human Resource Audit Institute back in 2023 and the staff headcount report done by the county government.

He said the fake primary and secondary school certificates were confirmed by the National Examination Council, which reviewed the academic papers of over 2,700 county employees.

Further, he confirmed that all the 93 county workers with fake academic papers have been removed from the payroll even as the public service board allows them to tell their side of the story.
