A senior police officer at Migori's Kegonga Police Station has died after accidentally shooting himself in the thigh.
According to reports, the officer shot himself while giving a weapon to a colleague.
Official reports note that Corporal Caudence Nyangenya was handing over a Barreta weapon to James Mugo Kabachia, Kuria East Sub-County Police Commander, when the incident happened.

While taking his usual safety procedures, he accidentally discharged one 9mm bullet from the handgun, injuring himself on the right thigh.
The officer was taken to Kegonga Sub County Hospital and transferred to Migori County Hospital for additional treatment, but his condition deteriorated, and he was pronounced dead on arrival.
He died due to heavy bleeding from the gunshot wound. His body was transferred to the hospital's morgue, awaiting a post-mortem.
