It was business as usual for the 21 Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General Justin Muturi just hours before President William Ruto announced their dismissal. On Thursday morning, the Kenya School of Government hosted nearly half the Cabinet for the inaugural National Development Implementation Committee meeting. Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, and former Attorney General Justin Muturi led discussions on improving service delivery to Kenyans.

Among those present were former Cabinet Secretaries Aden Duale, Susan Nakhumicha, Njug'una Ndung'u, Ababu Namwamba, Simon Chelugui, Florence Bore, Zachary Njeru, and Penina Malonza, along with Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau. To their surprise, all except Mudavadi would soon be dismissed, along with the Attorney General, to pave the way for a broad-based government.

This event came just two days after a Cabinet Committee meeting at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's official residence in Karen, chaired to expedite the implementation of cabinet decisions. Meanwhile, former Mining CS Salim Mvurya met with members of the Kenya Chamber of Mines to discuss licensing and value addition in the mining sector.

In Kilifi County, former Tourism CS Alfred Mutua was the chief guest at the launch of a beach cleanup exercise at Vidazini Beach, urging residents to maintain clean beaches to attract more tourists. Elsewhere, a planned tour of the BRT Line 2 along Thika Super Highway by former Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen was canceled at the last minute, just hours before President Ruto's address.

The dismissals came exactly a week after the Cabinet met, following two weeks of anti-government protests that forced the President to withdraw the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
