In Kitengela, Kajiado County, one person has been shot dead during anti-government protests, intensifying calls for President William Ruto to resign. What began as peaceful demonstrations in Kitengela town turned chaotic after police officers used teargas against the protesters.

The situation quickly escalated into running battles between protesters and anti-riot officers, who resorted to water cannons to disperse the crowd. As the clashes intensified, General Service Unit (GSU) officers were called in to support the police, who were at times overwhelmed by the protesters.

Videos circulating online showed demonstrators carrying a protester, who had been shot in the head, to a different location. According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), this incident brings the death toll to over 51 people since the protests began. The human rights group also reported 413 injuries and 59 abductions related to the demonstrations.

On Tuesday morning, protests erupted in over 23 counties, including Nairobi, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Nyeri, Makueni, Machakos, Laikipia, Homa Bay, Kilifi, and Turkana. Other affected counties were Kajiado, Baringo, Kericho, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia.

In Nairobi, anti-riot officers used teargas on peaceful protesters who were holding Kenyan flags and placards. Businesses across the Central Business Districts (CBD) of various towns remained closed as the protests continued throughout the day.

"No dialogue, just actions," chanted the protesters as they demanded the president's resignation.
