Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has expressed support for Azimio leader Raila Odinga's call to revisit and review the 2010 Constitution of Kenya. In a statement on Sunday, Kuria highlighted that, after the rejection of the Bomas Draft Constitution, the country has been avoiding the core issues by resorting to temporary solutions like coalition governments, the Handshake, and now a broad-based government.

Kuria stated that if Kenyans decide to revisit the Bomas Draft, he would fully commit to the formation of a new national constitution. "I fully support Raila Odinga's call for a return to the Bomas Draft. Over the last 19 years since the rejection of Bomas, we have gone in circles with artificial experiments like the Grand Coalition, the Handshake, and now a Broad-Based Government.

We have skirted around to avoid the inevitable. I will offer my full devotion and commitment towards a National Constitutional conference focused on the Bomas Draft," Kuria said on social media.

His comments followed Raila Odinga's remarks on Saturday, where Raila suggested that the upcoming national dialogue on issues raised by Gen Z could lead to a constitutional review. Raila emphasized the need to re-examine the 2010 Constitution to address existing shortcomings.

Raila noted that a comprehensive review, and if necessary, amendments to the Constitution would enable the country to move forward progressively. He also mentioned that during the initial collection of public views on the Constitution, Kenyans had made clear and thoughtful suggestions, but these were significantly altered during the Naivasha process.

"Kenyans met at the Bomas of Kenya and deliberated for a very long time, resulting in a very progressive constitution. However, that constitution was significantly altered during the so-called Naivasha process," Raila said. "We must go back to the Bomas Draft Constitution, put it back on the table, and determine what needs to be refined to ensure we have a truly progressive constitution."

Raila made these remarks in Alego Usonga during the burial of Lawyer Evans Orwenjo on Saturday.
