A Jamaican court of appeal on Wednesady ordered the release of dancehall star Vybz Kartel, who had been serving a life sentence for a murder committed in 2011.

Kartel, alongside three other men, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John, was convicted in March 2014 of the murder of an associate, Clive "Lizard" Williams.

In March, the UK-based Privy Council tossed out their convictions because of juror misconduct.

A three-judge panel said it was not merited to determine whether a new trial should be held.

"We conclude that the interests of justice do not require a new trial," Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop said.

Kartel is reportedly in poor health.

Kartel collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Eminem.

He also promoted his rum line, shoes, and a brand of condoms.
