Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka announced that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party will oppose the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

This decision came to light after a report by The Standard revealed a clandestine meeting held on Saturday, July 27, involving 21 MPs at the residence of a Cabinet Secretary nominee, aimed to strategize on raising an impeachment motion against Gachagua for allegedly undermining the Presidency.

Kalonzo Musyoka made this announcement during a requiem mass for Mercy Mawia Mwangi, a journalist from Mbaitu FM, held at the African Inland Church Milimani. In his address, Kalonzo emphasized that Wiper MPs would also reject the ODM Cabinet Secretary nominees during their vetting process in the house.

President William Ruto had earlier nominated five ODM CS candidates to various cabinet positions as part of his initiative to form a broad-based government. The nominees included former deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperatives, Hassan Joho for Mining and Blue Economy, former Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi for Energy, former ODM Chairman John Mbadi for National Treasury, and former ODM National Elections Board member Beatrice Askul for EAC and ASALS.

Kalonzo criticized the government's move to nominate opposition MPs, arguing that such actions do not constitute a genuine government of national unity. He stressed that the Azimio coalition remains steadfast in its mission to defend the rights of Kenyans and will not be swayed by political maneuvering.

Kalonzo defended his support for a national dialogue, a call initiated by President Ruto, especially in light of recent anti-government protests. He reaffirmed the coalition's commitment to unity and its role in advocating for the Kenyan populace.
