Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he removed his infamous traps at the statehouse that had been set to prevent ODM party leader Raila Odinga from accessing the statehouse and President Ruto.
During a vernacular interview, the DP disclosed that he had initially set these traps to prevent Raila from joining the government through the backdoor. He mentioned that the effectiveness of these traps was evident when Ruto and Raila had to meet in Uganda, far from the State House.
Gachagua stated, “My boss and I had agreed to set up traps to keep Raila out of the government. I checked these traps every morning and evening to see if they had caught anything.”
However, as President Ruto appeared more amicable with Raila, Gachagua decided to step back and observe the evolving political dynamics from a distance.

Reflecting on his past stance, Gachagua acknowledged that Raila had supported his "one-man, one-shilling, one-vote" campaign to allocate resources based on population sizes. He realized his traps might hinder someone now an ally in this cause. “People criticized me for suggesting resources be allocated based on population, but Raila later echoed my sentiments,” Gachagua explained.
He admitted reconsidering his position towards Raila, recognizing the political shifts similar to those seen with Uhuru Kenyatta. “Uhuru criticized Raila but ended up working with him. Ruto did the same, and now they are collaborating,” Gachagua noted.
Consequently, he removed all traps and acknowledged Raila’s support in the revenue-sharing formula campaign. “If Raila wants to visit the State House, I have no issue with it; he supports the same goals I have been advocating,” he concluded.
