An Eldoret Court has sentenced three suspects for falsely presenting themselves as Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) employees and defrauding athletes about Kes 800,000 between September and October 2021 in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county.
Eldoret Court Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan found the three, Thomas Kipyatich Kiptoo, Amos Mutai, and Samuel Rono guilty of impersonation and will pay a Kes 30,000 fine each or, in default, serve one-year imprisonment.
According to the charge sheet, the three faced impersonation charges contrary to section 382 of the Penal Code.
Kiptoo, alias Ali Thamer Kamal, also known as Thomas Kiprotich, faced another personation charge of falsely presenting himself as an ADAK official to athlete Purity Jebichii Changwony.
The three are said to have obtained Kes 776,700 from the athletes between September 2021 and June 2022.

Kiptoo, who faced a second count of obtaining money by false pretense, obtained Kes 546,700 from Lonyangata, whom he had promised to help terminate the Anti-doping case that he was facing following his suspension by ADAK on February 12, 2022.
Court documents stated that Kiptoo received the money from Lonyangata between October 3 and October 31, 2021.
Mutai, believed to have been working with Kiptoo, reportedly received Kes 30,000 from the athlete on October 23, 2021.
Kiptoo, along with others not before the court, was also charged with obtaining Kes 200,000 from Changwony by falsely pretending that they would assist her in terminating her anti-doping rule violation on various dates between September 20, 2021, and June 2, 2022, in Eldoret town.
