College student Zara Hull is speaking out after she and her friend were reportedly drugged at a swim-up bar in Cancun, Mexico, sharing the terrifying experience that led them to the hospital.

Hull, who spoke with CBS News following the incident, recounted how she was enjoying a day of swimming at a Cancun resort with her boyfriend, Jake Snider, and friend Kaylie Pitze. What began as a fun day in the sun quickly turned into a nightmare when, just two minutes after ordering water at the bar, the women began to feel incapacitated.

A distressing photo circulating online shows Zara and Kaylie holding hands with their heads slumped on the bar.

Zara described the experience, saying, "I have never felt like that in my life. I was so heavy that I couldn’t lift my head or anything."

Zara and Kaylie were rushed to a local hospital last Thursday after Zara began having seizures. The situation became so severe that she was heavily sedated and placed on a ventilator.

The college student claimed the hospital demanded at least $10,000 for treatment and accused the facility of holding her "captive" while insisting on a large payment. She chose not to disclose the name of the hospital out of concern for her safety.

Zara was eventually transferred to a hospital in Dallas, where she has been since Saturday.

The aftermath of the ordeal has been traumatic for Zara, who said she has experienced around 18 convulsions and multiple instances of lung failure. She has now begun physical therapy to relearn how to walk after the medical crisis.

Her message was clear: "They say, 'the resort is the safest place' ... that’s not true."
