Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) has appointed former Kenya Re- Insurance company Chairman David Kibet Kemei as  Director General pending approvals from the National Assembly.

He is set to replace Adano W. Rioba, who has been serving in the capacity on an acting basis since 2023 after confirmation by the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning and the relevant Senate Standing Committee.

“Honourable Members, in the Message, the Ag. The Cabinet Secretary conveys that, in the exercise of powers conferred by section 12 of the Competition Act, CAP 504, nominates Mr. David Kibet Kemei for appointment as the Director-General of the Competition Authority. The Ag. The Cabinet Secretary therefore seeks the approval of the aid nominee by Parliament,” National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula.

Kimei holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting as well as a master’s in business administration (MBA) from the University of Nairobi (UoN).

His career journey began in 1990 as a management trainee at the Kenya National Trading Corporation.

He later worked as a tutorial fellow at the UoN before taking up other roles at the Nation Media Group, Windsor Golf Hotels, and Country Club, as well as the Energy Regulatory Commission.
