Former Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Aisha Jumwa, is facing legal challenges as a property owner has taken her to court over an unpaid debt. This comes just days after she was removed from her position in President William Ruto's administration.
The dispute involves a property in Nairobi valued at Ksh 250 million, which Jumwa acquired but failed to fully pay for. The creditor is now seeking a court order to compel her to settle the outstanding debt.
Jumwa, who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Malindi and was a 2022 UDA gubernatorial candidate for Kilifi, is grappling with an uncertain political future following her exit from the cabinet.

Her removal came after Ruto dissolved his entire cabinet in response to a vote of no confidence from the public. Unfortunately for Jumwa, she was not reinstated in the new cabinet announced by the President.
According to reports from The Star Media, CS Aisha Jumwa, who previously served as the MP for Malindi, is alleged to have purchased a house valued at Sh215 million in Runda. However, she has only paid Sh145 million and has not fulfilled the remaining payment. The property owners have issued a warning to sue the CS for defaulting on the payment. As per The Star's report, Jumwa has been granted a 21-day ultimatum to settle the full amount, failing which legal action will be taken against her.
The Star also published photos of the mansion for which the CS owes a debt. This disclosure has sparked widespread discussion among Kenyans, with many questioning whether Cabinet Secretaries are facing financial challenges. However, some individuals have suggested that instances like these may drive government officials to embezzle public funds in order to maintain lavish lifestyles.
