Kenya shone brightly in the World Masters Athletics Championships. On Sunday evening, Rosaline David from Kapenguria led the charge by winning gold in the women’s 10 Road Race at Slottsskogen City Park, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Rosaline, competing in the W45 category, crossed the finish line with a championship record time of 35:08, securing her second gold. Earlier in the week, she had claimed victory in the women’s 5000m event at the Ullevi Stadium.

Expressing her delight, Rosaline shared, “I am thrilled with this win. Honestly, I didn’t anticipate such a result. The race was challenging due to the steep hills, but I received advice from my teammate, Joan, to maintain the lead.

That encouragement drove me to push harder as my opponent closed in. I hope my West Pokot governor, Hon. Simon Kachapin, will keep his promise to receive me at the airport. I’ve won two gold medals for Kenya and didn’t let him or the nation down.”

In the men’s M50 10KM Road Race, Kenneth Mburu Mung’ara from Limuru, Kiambu County, also claimed gold, setting a championship record 30:22. His victory added to Team Kenya’s celebration on a chilly evening. Meanwhile, Francis Bowen, the men’s 5000m gold medalist, secured silver in 31:27, while Fredrick Gilbert of France took bronze.

Samuel Ndereba contributed to Kenya's impressive performance by winning silver in the men’s M45 10KM Road Race, clocking 3:17. By the end of the day, Kenya had secured five medals from the road race, boosting their overall tally to 18 medals—four golds, nine silvers, and four bronzes—propelling the nation up the medal standings.
