A Nairobi court has released businessman Jimi Wanjigi on a Kes 10 million personal bond pending a ruling on plea deferment set for September 12.

The ruling is set to determine if Wanjigi will take a plea in a case where he is accused of owning unlicensed firearms.

Similarly, Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi directed Wanjigi to deposit his passport in court pending the ruling.

His lawyers, led by Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Paul Muite, and John Khaminwa, applied to have the plea hearing deferred, claiming their client’s rights had been violated.

They argued that there was a high court order issued by Justice Bahati Mwamuye stopping his arrest and detention.

This comes a day after he was arrested Monday evening after he presented himself for grilling at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)’s Milimani office.

He was expected to meet with Regional Police boss Adamson Bungei to record a statement. His legal team ushered Wanjigi into the DCI office.
