At least 28 Pakistani pilgrims tragically lost their lives when their bus crashed in central Iran, according to state media reports on Wednesday.

The devastating accident resulted in 28 fatalities and left 23 others injured, with concerns that the death toll could rise. Pakistani consular officials have been called to Yazd province to assist with the situation and follow up on the incident.

The pilgrims were en route to Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage, a major religious event for Shi'ite Muslims. This pilgrimage, observed in Iraq's Karbala Governorate, commemorates the 40th day of mourning for Imam Hussein bin Ali, the revered grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and a key figure in Shi'ite Islam.
