Indian police have successfully rescued 17 East African women from a prostitution ring operating in the Hyderabad district following a tip-off from the public.

According to reports from Indian media, among the rescued women, 14 are Kenyan, two are Ugandan, and one is Tanzanian. The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the police conducted a raid at a house in Kondapur, leading to the arrest of three suspects involved in organizing the trafficking network.

During the raid, authorities confiscated cash, four mobile phones, 25 HIV testing kits, sex toys, and 104 condoms.

Investigations revealed that the ringleader used social media platforms to lure customers, operating the prostitution ring through classified sections on sites like 'Locanto.' The women were reportedly trafficked across various cities in India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

The victims had entered India on tourist and medical visas, with some overstaying after their visas expired. The prostitution ring is estimated to have charged customers between Ksh.4,602 and Ksh.30,682.
